Will Florida have another hurricane-free year?
Much like last year, the atmospheric patterns have curved several storms away from our shoreline, including Hurricane Irene . Newly formed Tropical Storm Katia might follow suit. If so, thank a high pressure ridge over the Atlantic for occasionally weakening enough to allow storms to sneak north.
Sea turtles affected by Hurricane Irene
Lucky for Florida, Hurricane Irene did little damage to the coast, causing only minor beach erosion. One impact still being assessed is what happened with nesting sea turtles. Thousands of sea turtle nests were still incubating this week on Florida beaches and were vulnerable to being inundated, or potential washed out if the beach erosion was band. [...]
