Will Florida have another hurricane-free year?
Much like last year, the atmospheric patterns have curved several storms away from our shoreline, including Hurricane Irene . Newly formed Tropical Storm Katia might follow suit. If so, thank a high pressure ridge over the Atlantic for occasionally weakening enough to allow storms to sneak north.

Lucky for Florida, Hurricane Irene did little damage to the coast, causing only minor beach erosion. One impact still being assessed is what happened with nesting sea turtles.
