It happens rarely, but hurricanes have hit Florida in July
Only three hurricanes have struck Florida in July since 1900. Yet forecasters warn residents not to assume this month will be a cakewalk. "Even though the peak months tend to be August, September and October, July can start the ramp-up process," said hurricane specialist Eric Blake, of the National Hurricane Center in Miami-Dade County.
