Hurricane season ends Friday, and barring any unusual events, it was a quiet one for Florida: A strong area of high pressure kept the two most ferocious storms of 2007 pinned well to the south.

Don't describe the 2007 hurricane season that ends Friday as quiet, local experts say. It actually was a busy season, but not for us, said Irene Toner, Monroe County Emergency Management director. For the Florida Keys, it was a fortunate season.
